The Williams-Mystic Joseph Conrad Essay Contest: Undergraduates

The Maritime Studies Program of Williams College and Mystic Seaport (Williams-Mystic), an interdisciplinary undergraduate study-away program focused on maritime studies offers an essay contest for a $5,000 scholarship for a semester of study at Williams-Mystic.

Submissions of 1,000 to 1,500 words in length, either non-fiction or fiction (but not poetry), are eligible. The sea or a body of water must be the principal setting and concern. Narratives, essays on environmental issues, literary or historical scholarship and related topics are all eligible. Essays must be unpublished at the time of submission and written in English. Deadline: 15 October 2009.
