Conditions of Entry

We are proud to present the 4th writing contest for English books: November 4th to November 30th, 2009

While traveling we always have new experiences, whether they are amazing, life changing or just disillusioning. Tell us your travel story. It may deal with a travel journey to a new place, time travelling, revisiting one’s past, visiting a lost love or a new one, or an inner journey. Or maybe you want to narrate about your imaginary journey to Mars? Enter the latest BookRix Short Story Writing Contest for free to read exciting, interesting and fascinating travel stories or even write one to share it with other readers and writers. Your story can be fiction or non-fiction: Tell us your travel story, turn your wordsmith powers into positive cashflow and fame…

Key Facts:
* Anyone registered at our BookRix.com website can join the contest for free (except citizens of Germany, Austria and Switzerland).
* Authors and readers can enter the competition for free and win cash money.
* Enter a book about rain that you have already written and published or write a new rain story.

Prizes for authors:
First Prize: $1000
Second Prize: $500
Third Prize: $300

Prizes for readers:
10 Amazon vouchers each worth $20 will be raffled for free among all readers taking part in the voting process.

More information
* No entry fee is required.
* Authors must be registered at BookRix.com to enter a story into the competition.
* Readers must vote on at least one book to enter the contest: all registered BookRix members may rate books and qualify for the raffle.
* Citizens of Germany, Austria and Switzerland must not take part in the competition.

Timeline:
Community Voting – November 4th to November 30th, 2009
Jury Rating – December 1st to December 14th, 2009

The contest starts on November 4, 2009. Authors must register their stories for the competition by November 30, 2009, 12 pm (EDT) / 9 am (PDT). Write a story that has anything to do with traveling. It must not be longer than 25 BookRix pages. Until November 30, 2009 readers can vote for their favorite story. Readers’ votes determine a selection of the best 10 stories, “TOP 10”. Afterwards this selection of the bestrated 10 stories will be given to an independent jury consisting of BookRix and the Georgia Writers Association. The Jury will choose the best three stories out of the final 10 books. All winners will be announced on or before December 21, 2009.

Columbia Journal Fiction, Nonfiction, and Poetry Contests

The Columbia Journal is calling writers in fiction, nonfiction and poetry!

Columbia: A Journal of Literature and Art has launched its annual literary contest in fiction, nonfiction and poetry. First-place winners in each genre will win $500, plus publication in the print journal (Spring 2010). The top works in fiction will be judged by Joshua Ferris (Then We Came to the End), in nonfiction by Meghan Daum (My Misspent Youth) and in poetry by Dan Beachy-Quick (Mulberry).

The deadline for entry is January 1, 2010. The entry fee is $12. Contest submissions in fiction and nonfiction must be no longer than twenty double-spaced pages. Poets may send up to five individual poems for consideration, but they must be combined in a single document.

Winners and runners-up may also be considered for publication on the journal’s website.
