Call for submissions to AndWeWereHungry: A New Online Arts & Literary Magazine

2 February 2013

AndWeWereHungry, a new online arts & literary magazine, seeks literary prose (fiction, nonfiction and essay), poetry, photography and artwork for debut issue & calls for entries to its short story competition! The debut issue and short story contest (four winners shall share a total prize fund of $5000), is sponsored by “Ashes & Snow” artist Gregory Colbert. Debut issue & contest submission theme or creative prompt is “And we were hungry. . . .,” or more broadly, “HUNGER.” For after all haven’t we all experienced hunger? And isn’t it, in the words of Ray Bradbury, that very hunger or “lack that gives us inspiration?” Consideration for contest’s top prize of $2000 is reserved for stories that connect the theme with nature. Contributors are encouraged to otherwise freely interpret the theme. Submission deadline is March 31, 2013. Guidelines, more info and themes & deadlines for future issues are found at

While there are no contest entry or submissions reading fees, we are not a paying market at this time.

What’s in it for you, if you decide to submit your work for publication on AndWeWereHungry? We do not pay for contributions at the moment, but our aim is to create a beautiful and elegant platform that showcases and enables us market the hell out of our contributors.  And as new kids on the online literary magazine block, we take the collaboration and promotion of our contributors seriously: the whole will only be as great as its parts! As part of this collaboration we are building an elegant and beautiful responsive website that will be fully accessible on all mobile devices. Website design and aesthetic is forethought, and hunting down stunning art will be as important as featuring the best quality writing we can get our hands on. We believe that this dual focus on both stunning art and beautiful prose will be our key weapon in finding and growing an audience for the work of all of our contributors, and thereby increase every individual contributor’s exposure to new audiences and new opportunities. If after checking us out online, you feel like we would be a nice home for your work, you may submit your work directly via this link:
