Creative Nonfiction Calls for Submission

Creative Nonfiction Magazine, the first and largest nonfiction literary magazine. currently has two active calls for submission.  More information can be found below.

For our upcoming fall 2016 issue, we’re looking for essays on the topic of ‘learning from nature’. The deadline for submissions is February 1, 2016, and there is no reading fee for this contest. Our editors will award $5000 for Best Essay and $1000 for runner-up.

Finally, for an essay collection on our book imprint In Fact Books, we’re looking for essays on the topic of siblings. The deadline for submissions is March 7, 2016, and there is no reading fee for this contest.

Essays should combine a strong and compelling narrative with an informative or reflective element, reaching beyond a strictly personal experience for some universal or deeper meaning. We’re looking for well-written prose, rich with detail and a distinctive voice; all essays must tell true stories and be factually accurate.

Essays must be previously unpublished and no longer than 4,500 words. Multiple submissions are welcome, as are entries from outside the United States. You may submit essays online or by regular mail.
