Screencraft: Comedy Screenplay Contest 2018

Whether you have a romantic comedy or an action-comedy blockbuster, we want to read your script!

We’re thrilled to announce our 2018 Comedy Screenplay Contest. Big or small, our jury is looking for smart feature film screenplays with a strong command of the craft, lots of heart and unique comedic voices. All entries are eligible for optional feedback from a studio-trained professional reader.

1st Place: Feature GRAND PRIZE $ 1,000 Cash

  • phone consultations with top Hollywood literary managers and agents
  • personal introduction to studio executives and producers

2nd Place: $ 200 Cash

  • will receive a in-depth development and career strategy with the ScreenCraft team
  • personal introductions to managers, agents, producers and development executives

Top 3 Finalists:

  • written feedback from one of our professional Hollywood readers
  • Free license to Final Draft 10 screenwriting software.


  • All writers at least 18 years of age are eligible. However, a writer who has earned more than $50,000 (or equivalent currency) from professional writing services for film or TV in the preceding year is not. (Contest winnings not included.)
  • All persons from anywhere in the world are eligible; however the material submitted must be in English.
  • All material submitted to other competitions or contests are eligible.
  • There are no requirements as to when the material was written.
  • The material submitted must not be encumbered by any obligation to, or option held by, a third party prior to entering the competition.
  • Any submitted work that becomes optioned, published, produced or purchased between the time of submission and the end of the judging period will no longer be eligible.
  • Material should be submitted in standard screenplay format, font, spacing and margin.
  • We have no preferences regarding title page content. Title and name of writer would suffice.
  • Adaptations are ineligible unless the underlying rights are owned by the writer or the work is in the public domain.
  • Feature screenplays longer than 140 pages will not be eligible.
  • All material must be submitted electronically as a PDF or it will not be eligible.


  • Submissions are accepted via electronic submission only, between March 15, 2018 and June 1, 2018.
  • Entry fee for each screenplay is $49 until the early deadline on April 16th, and then $69 until final deadline on June 1st.
  • There is no limit to the number of projects you may submit.
  • Entries must be received on or before the deadlines and submission fee payment must be made in full at time of the submission. All entry fees are non-refundable.
  • Please proofread your script carefully before submitting.
  • Substitutions of either corrected pages or new drafts of the submitted material will be allowed for a limited time with a $5 reentry fee via Coverfly (instructions will be provided in your submission confirmation email).
  • All submitted material must be original, and all rights must be wholly owned by the writer(s).
  • Material must be submitted by the writer. Material written by writing teams must be submitted by one of the writers, with consent of the other(s).  All writers must be credited on title page.
  • If a writing team is chosen as a winner, prizes will be given to the person who submits the project. Each team is responsible for dividing or sharing the prize money.
  • It is recommended that original material be registered with the WGA or The Library of Congress before submitting to any competition, however we do not require registration.
  • All ownership and rights to the scripts submitted to this contest remains with the original rights holders.

  • Cara Masline (Literary Manager at 3 Arts Entertainment, the production and management company behind such celebrated comedy Hollywood talent as Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, Kevin Hart, Mindy Kaling, Matt LeBlanc, BJ Novak, Charlie Day, Geroge Lopez, James Franco, Aziz Ansari, Louis CK and many more!)

THE DREAM QUEST ONE POETRY & WRITING CONTEST – SUMMER 2018 is open to anyone who loves expressing innermost thoughts and feelings into the beautiful literary art of poetry and/or writing a story that is worth telling everyone! Guidelines: (1) Write a poem, thirty lines or fewer on any subject, form or style. And/or (2) Write a short story, five pages maximum length, single or double line spacing, on any subject or theme, fiction, nonfiction, or creative nonfiction. Multiple and simultaneous entries are accepted. ( *Postmarked deadline: September 15, 2018 Prizes: Writing First Prize is $500; Second: $250; Third: $100. Poetry First Prize: $250; Second: $125; Third: $50. All contest winners works will be published online in the Dare to Dream pages, on October 31, 2018. Entry fees: $10 per story, $5 per poem. Get your best work together and consider entering the WOW! quarterly flash fiction contest with guest judge, literary agent Sharon Pelletier with Dystel, Goderich & Bourret. WOW! is proud to introduce our newest essay contest! Writers have been asking us to host an essay contest for many years, and we’ve finally listened. The mission of this essay contest is to inspire creative nonfiction and provide well-rewarded recognition to contestants. The contest is open globally; age is of no matter; and entries must be in English. Your story must be true, but the way you tell it is your chance to get creative. We are open to all styles of essay—from personal essay to lyric essay to hybrid essay, and beyond! Word Count: 200 – 1,000 words. Only 300 stories are accepted, so enter early to ensure your spot in the contest. 1st Place: $500.
