The Writers’ Workshop Literary Fiction Contest

Deadline: Postmarked by August 30, 2017. 

AWARDS:

1ST PLACE: Choice of a 2-night stay at our Mountain Muse B&B, 3 free workshops, or 50 pages (or 10 poems)
line-edited and revised by our editorial staff

2nd PLACE: Choice of a 1-night stay at our B&B, 2 free workshops, or 35 pages (or 8 poems) line-edited

3rd PLACE: Choice of 1 free workshop, or 25 pages (or 5 poems) line-edited

Up to 10 Honorable Mentions

  •  Submit a short story or chapter of a novel of 5,000 words or less.  Multiple entries are accepted.  All work must be unpublished.
  • Pages should be paper clipped, with your name, address, phone and title of work on a cover sheet. Double-space, and use 12 point font.
  • The entry fee per submission is $25 ($20 for Workshop members). Entry fee is payable online.
  • Enclose self-addressed stamped envelope for critique and list of winners.
  • Make check or money order payable to The Writers’ Workshop, and mail to:  Fiction Contest, 387 Beaucatcher Road, Asheville, NC  28805.
  • Emailed submissions may be sent to writersw@gmail.com, with “Fiction Contest” in the subject. No cover sheet or SASE is necessary. The entry fee is payable online at www.twwoa.org.

Welcome to the 2015 BlueCat Screenplay Competition

EARLY DEADLINE ANNOUNCEMENT

The BlueCat Screenplay Competition accepts both feature length and short screenplays, and in keeping with our longstanding tradition, every screenplay will receive one written analysis, with our best screenplays receiving over $40,000 in cash prizes.
SPECIAL EARLY DEADLINE

The Special Early Entry Fee for all scripts received by June 15th is $55 for features and $35 for short screenplays.

All submissions received by June 15th will receive their written analysis by July 1st. The next analysis deadline isn’t until September!

Since 1998, the BlueCat Screenplay Competition has provided a community for the unknown screenwriter to develop their work, giving undiscovered talent a path to professional success.

  • Young Il Kim’s script, “Rodham,” a 2012 Blacklist Script, recently attached director James Ponsoldt (“The Spectacular Now”). Young recently won the 2013 Alfred P. Sloan Commissioning Grant from Sundance, where he will write a biopic on Stephen Hawking.
  • Ana Lily Amipour’s debut feature, “A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night”, premiered at 2014 Sundance.
  • Ashleigh Powell sold her script, “SomaCell,” to Warner Brothers, with David Goyer attached to produce.

Vallum Award for Poetry 2012

Vallum Award for Poetry 2012

DEADLINE JULY 15, 2012 (postmark)

Some of the best poets in the world have graced the pages of
Vallum: new international poetics. Time to join the ranks!

Vallum is accepting original and previously unpublished poetry submissions for the Vallum Award for Poetry 2012.

ENTRY FEE:

$20 CDN for Canadian residents, $20 USD for international entrants, which includes a free one-year subscription to Vallum. Payment can be made by cheque (payable to “Vallum”) or through our online store hosted by PayPal.

CONTEST RULES:

Submit up to 1-3 poems of maximum 60 lines each. Do not label your poems with your name or address; instead include a cover letter with all pertinent information.

Poems may be on any theme or subject, but must be original and not previously published.

1st prize is $500, 2nd $250. Both 1st and 2nd prize-winning poems will be published in Vallum Magazine and on Vallum’s website. Honourable Mentions may be selected and published but are not eligible for cash prizes.
