Junior Authors Short Story Writing Contest Rules:

  1. Contest open to any student between 9 and 21 years old as of June 30, 2013. Proof of age may be required.
  2. It does not matter where you call home. Entries from any country are welcome.
  3. Your story can be about anything you like. Be creative and have fun.
  4. Your story must be in English.
  5. Maximum length is 1000 words.
  6. No images, illustrations or fancy fonts. Keep it easy to read. Not sure which font to use? Try Times New Roman 12 pt.
  7. Make sure your name and the title of your story are on the first page of your story.
  8. Complete the online entry form and upload your story. This will be available on January 1st. No entries will be accepted early.
  9. Pay the optional FEEDBACK fee.*
  10. One story per student.

*New FEEDBACK OPTION for 2013. For a small fee paid when your story is submitted, you will receive a feedback package after the contest winners are announced. The package will contain your score broken down into the four criteria (unity, style, description and story structure), along with some suggestions from Laura about how to improve the story. Stories may be worked on and resubmitted in 2014. You will be able to sign up and pay for this service on the online entry form.
