New Publish or Perish Contest Celebrates Authors as Marketers

8 July 2015

JOHNSBURY, VT.– Brigantine Media is proud to announce the first publishing contest that rewards both writing quality and marketing muscle. The Publish or Perish contest will reward an author who has both written a great manuscript and developed a strong platform for marketing the book.

The winner of the Publish or Perish contest will receive a publishing contract for the book and a $2,000 advance against royalties. The book quality and marketing plan are given equal weight in determining the winning entry. Writers can enter the contest at www.PublishOrPerishContest.com.

There is no fee for entering the contest.

“Think American Idol crossed with Shark Tank,” said Neil Raphel, acquisitions editor of Brigantine Media. “Even a great book won’t get attention from readers unless there is a plan for developing an audience. Our experience is that publishing success or failure depends on our authors’ commitment to marketing.”

Brigantine Media is hoping to identify a number of promising book projects from the contest entries. “We typically publish business, fiction, and education books,” said Janis Raye, editorial chief at Brigantine Media, “but we’re accepting manuscripts for books of any genre in the Publish or Perish contest.”

Successful Brigantine Media authors have built their audience in a variety of ways: business authors who are acknowledged experts in their fields; bloggers who have devoted readers eagerly awaiting their next book; writers who speak frequently to audiences about their book. The winning entry in the Publish or Perish contest will include a well-developed plan to help the book be successful.

The Publish or Perish contest deadline for entries is August 15, 2015 and the winner will be announced September 15, 2015.
