7 May 2017The Dream Quest One Poetry & Writing Contest is open to anyone who loves expressing innermost thoughts and feelings into the beautiful literary art of poetry and/or writing a story that’s worth telling everyone! And welcome to all, having the ability to dream… Write a poem or short story for a chance to win cash prizes totaling $1275.00. All works must be original. http://www.dreamquestone.com
Write a poem, 30 lines or fewer on any subject, style, or form, typed or neatly hand printed.
And/or write a short story, 5 pages maximum length, on any subject or theme; fiction, nonfiction or creative non-fiction (including essay compositions, diary, journal entries and screenwriting). Also, all entries must be either typed or neatly hand printed.
Multiple and simultaneous poetry and short story entries are accepted.

Gordy Hoffman, the Sundance award-winning writer/director (LOVE LIZA, A COAT OF SNOW), will be available for one-hour, in-person script consultations in Denver between May 26-27, 2017 (Friday and Saturday).
Gordy will read your script in advance, and then when he’s in Denver, he will meet with you at your convenience to provide notes to you and discuss your script in depth for one hour. He will answer all your questions and give you a clear path forward on rewriting your draft, as well as answer any specific questions you might have about screenwriting and film making. The consultation is designed to support the development of your screenplay and you as a screenwriter overall.
Once you’ve booked the consultation, we will be determine the location and time that’s convenient while Gordy’s in Denver. If you have any questions regarding logistics or scheduling before you register for the consultation, please contact the BlueCat office at info@bluecatscreenplay.com.
Gordy has taught graduate screenwriting courses at USC and UCLA, as well as led workshops all over North America, Australia, New Zealand, Poland and England. He’s presented at numerous writing conferences, including IFP Script to Screen Conference, Lit Week at Lighthouse Workshop, Willamette Writers Conference, Script DC Conference, as well as serving as judge for the McKnight Screenwriting Fellowships in Minnesota. A proud Jayhawk, he sits on the Professional Advisory Board of the Film and Media Studies Department at his alma mater, the University of Kansas.
Gordy’s short film, DOG BOWL, had its world premiere at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival Short Film Program. He’s currently developing a feature for Abigail Spencer.
Gordy Hoffman founded the BlueCat Screenplay Competition in 1998 and remains its judge.

2017 Salamander Magazine Fiction Contest
5 May 2017Submissions Deadline: June 1, 2o17
Salamander magazine will award cash prizes of $1,000 and $500 plus publication for the two best fiction stories. Final judge is Christopher Castellani. All entries will be considered for publication. All entries will be considered anonymously. Send no more than one story per entry. Each story must not exceed 30 double-spaced pages in 12 point font. Multiple entries are acceptable, provided that a separate reading fee is included with each entry. Contest reading fee ($15) includes a one-year subscription. All contest results will be posted on salamandermag.org by August 1, 2017.

Christopher Castellani is the author of four books: The Art of Perspective: Who Tells the Story, a meditation on point of view in fiction, and the novels All This Talk of Love, The Saint of Lost Things, and A Kiss from Maddalena. He has taught in the MFA Program at Warren Wilson, Swarthmore College, and the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference. In 2014, he was awarded a Guggenheim fellowship for a forthcoming novel, Leading Men.

The Francine Ringold Awards for New Writers
5 May 2017One of the oldest “little magazines” in the country, Nimrod has continually published new and extraordinary writers since 1956. We are dedicated to the discovery of new voices in literature, and with the Francine Ringold Awards we aim to recognize even more talented new poets and fiction writers. The Francine Ringold Awards are open only to writers who have had no more than two previous publications, allowing writers at early stages of their careers to compete against one another and be honored for their achievements.
Submission deadline is July 15th, 2017.
The Francine Ringold Awards for New Writers honor the work of writers at the beginning of their careers.
Prizes: $500 prizes will be awarded in both the fiction and poetry categories, and the winning manuscripts will appear in the spring issue of Nimrod. Winners will have the chance to work with the Nimrod board of editors to refine and edit their manuscripts before publication.
Contest Rules
Eligibility: Open only to writers whose work has not appeared or is not scheduled to appear in more than 2 publications. (Self-published works or works with a distribution of less than 100 copies are not considered toward the count of 2 publications.)
- Poetry: Up to 5 pages of poetry (one long poem or several short poems)
- Fiction: 5,000 words maximum (one short story or a self-contained excerpt from a novel)
- All work submitted must be unpublished.
- Work submitted may be on any theme, any subject.
- The contest is open internationally.

BlueCat Screenplay Competition 2017 CALL FOR ENTRIES
5 May 2017The BlueCat Screenplay Competition, now in its 19th year, is accepting submissions for its 2017 competition.
Founded by award-winning writer/director Gordy Hoffman in 1998, the BlueCat Screenplay Competition’s passionate commitment to develop and discover the unknown screenwriter continues to define our work today, becoming one of the largest and most prestigious screenplay competitions in the world.
BlueCat’s Winners and Finalists have been signed by major talent agencies like UTA, CAA and WME, sold their work to studios like Warner Bros., Paramount and Universal, and won major awards at the Sundance, Berlin and Tribeca Film Festivals, all after being discovered by and winning BlueCat.
NOW ACCEPTING TV PILOTS
Along with accepting feature screenplays and short scripts, BlueCat will now be accepting television pilot scripts.
WRITTEN FEEDBACK TO ALL ENTRANTS
