Booksie 2023 Poetry Contest

The poetry can be of any type, length, or content, but it must be your own. The poetry can be serious or whimsical, fact or fiction, but it should strike a chord that makes us sit up and take notice. We’re looking for poems that say something and make a reader sit up and think. You may submit as many entries as you like.

One winner will receive:

Hello Playwrights,

 I hope your new year is bringing you happiness, health, and creativity! I wanted to share with you information about our next 10-minute play festival!!

Emerald Theatre Company’s 6th Annual 10-Minute Play Festival.

This year’s theme is The 7 Deadly Sins                                                                                            

Playwrights choose one and get creative!

Contest Rules:  No more than 10 minutes in length, 10 pages maximum, no more than 3 characters and relates to the theme.

Absurd, Comedic, Dark, Dramatic, Farce, Tragedy…literal or figurative, that is up to you!

Work must be original and unproduced.

These are black box productions so minimal sets are required.

SUBMISSIONS RULES: Send 2 printed copies. The cover page should only have the title of the play and what SIN is represented. On a separate page include the playwright’s name, address, phone and email. These do not count as one of the 10 pages.

Entry Fee: $10.00 money order or check payable to Emerald Theatre Company. Submissions deadline is May 31, 2023. Winners contacted and announced on July 1, 2023 and the play festival is September 1-3, 2023

Guidelines:

Write a poem of 30 lines or fewer on any subject, style, or form, typed or neatly hand-printed.

Askew’s Word on the Lake Writing Contest

Whether you’re an established or emerging writer, the annual Askew’s Word on the Lake Writing Contest has a place for you! Part of the Word on the Lake Writers’ Festival in Salmon Arm, BC, Canada, the contest is open to submissions in short fiction (up to 1,500 words), nonfiction (up to 1,500 words), and poetry (up to three one-page poems).

Entry fee: $15 Canadian, which goes directly to supporting the Word on the Lake Writers’ Festival

Prizes: First Place: $200 and a Word on the Lake festival registration package. Second Place: $125 and tickets to the Word on the Lake award banquet. Honourable Mention: $100 and tickets to the Word on the Lake award banquet.
