The Dream Quest One Poetry & Writing Contest is open to anyone who enjoys expressing innermost thoughts and feelings into the beautiful literary art of poetry or writing a story that’s worth telling everyone! Guidelines:

Write a poem, 30 lines or fewer on any subject, style, or form, typed or neatly hand printed.

And/or write a short story, 5 pages maximum length, on any subject or theme, fiction or non-fiction (including essay compositions, diary, journal entries, short screenplays, and screenwriting). Also, all entries must be either typed or legibly hand printed.

Multiple and simultaneous poetry and short story entries are accepted.

Postmark deadline: May 31, 2019

All winners will be announced on June 30, 2019

Prizes(USD):

Writing First Prize is $500. Second: $250. Third: $100.

Poetry First Prize is $250. Second: $125. Third: $50.

Entry fees(USD): $5 per poem, $10 per story

Salamander Magazine Fiction Contest 2019

 DEADLINE: JUNE 3, 2019

 

Salamander magazine will award cash prizes of $1,000 and $500 plus publication for the two best fiction stories. All entries will be considered for publication. All entries will be considered anonymously. Send no more than one story per entry. Each story must not exceed 30 double-spaced pages in 12 point font. Multiple entries are acceptable, provided that a separate reading fee is included with each entry. Contest reading fee includes a one-year subscription. There is a reading fee of $15, and all contest results will be posted on salamandermag.org by August 1, 2019.

 

Judge: Wayétu Moore

Wayétu Moore is the author of She Would Be King, published by Graywolf Press in 2018. She is the founder of One Moore Book, a non-profit publisher of culturally relevant children’s books. Her writing can be found in The Paris Review, Frieze Magazine, Guernica, The Atlantic Magazine and other publications.  Moore is an Africana Studies lecturer at City University of New York’s John Jay College, and founding faculty member of the Randolph College MFA program. She lives in Brooklyn, NY.

The 15th Annual Voices of Lincoln Poetry Contest

Inviting All To Enter The Voices of Lincoln Poetry Contest—And To—

Spread The Word

To Both Adult and Young Poets

 

The 15th Annual Voices of Lincoln Poetry Contest officially begins in April, as part of the celebration of National Poetry Month. There are five new categories: “Who Is The Most Important Person In My Life?”   “What Treasure Would I Like To Discover?”   “What Don’t I Know About You That I Should?”   “What Would I Do If I Ruled The World?”   “Should We Be Thinking About Today Or Tomorrow?”   Poets may submit a maximum of three poems, no more than one in each of three of the five contest categories.

Poems may be in rhyme, free verse, Haiku or other accepted poetry forms and of any length, up to a maximum of 60 lines.

Everyone is encouraged to enter the contest.  Poets do not have to live in Lincoln, CA to be eligible. Young Poets, 18-years of age or under, are encouraged to submit poems and will compete in a special “Young Poets” category. 

     

Entry Forms and Contest Rules are available in the rack next to the Front Desk at the Lincoln Public Library at Twelve Bridges and can be downloaded from the following website: www.libraryatlincoln.org under “NEWS.”

Winners will read their poems on Sunday, October 13, 2019, at the Voices of Lincoln Special Event to be held from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m. in the Willow Room at the Lincoln Public Library at Twelve Bridges, 485 Twelve Bridges Drive, Lincoln, CA. Those who cannot attend will have their poems read for them by a member of the Poets Club of Lincoln. Winners also will be presented with a commemorative chapbook of the winning poems.
