The International Rubery Book Award 2019

Welcome to the home of the Rubery Book Prizes.

​The Rubery Prize is a prestigious international book award seeking the best books by indie writers, self-published authors, and books published by independent presses, judged by reputable judges. Creative writing is such a key part of life for those who enjoy writing yet it is increasingly difficult to become traditionally published. Through our reputation of finding quality and outstanding books, we aim to bring recognition to the works that win and heighten an author’s profile. The Rubery Prize is now a well-established name in the publishing world. In 2017 the prize pot is approximately £2000. £1500 of which is allocated to our Book of the Year.

The winning book will be read by a top London Literary Agent

Plus a minimum of the 3 category winners each winning £150 (approx 200$, 180€)

Judges
We have secured three high profile judges:
Paul McDonald – senior lecturer in English and Creative Writing at the University of Wolverhampton. He is the author of fifteen books, including three novels and three collections of poetry.

Kerry Hadley-Pryce is a PhD student who has had two novels published; The Black Country and Gamble. She was awarded the Michael Schmidt Prize while completing her MA.

Clare Morrall – her debut novel, Astonishing Splashes of Colour, was shortlisted for the MAN Booker Prize. Morrall was also shortlisted for British Newcomer of the Year 2003. Her fourth novel, The Man who Disappeared, was selected for the TV Book Club 2010. In 2012 The Roundabout Man was released to critical acclaim.

Last Call for Entries! Tom Howard/Margaret Reid Poetry Contest

September 30, 2018 is the last day you can enter this year’s Tom Howard/Margaret Reid Poetry Contest. S. Mei Sheng Frazier will judge, assisted by Jim DuBois. We will award $4,000 in prizes and publish the winners on our website. We’ll also announce the results in our newsletter (50,000+ subscribers) and Twitter feed (107,000+ followers).

$1,500 Tom Howard Prize for a poem in any style or genre
$1,500 Margaret Reid Prize for a poem that rhymes or has a traditional style
10 Honorable Mentions will receive $100 each (any category)

New this year: Our co-sponsor Duotrope will award one-year gift certificates (value $50) to the top two winners.

WOW! Women On Writing Fall 2018 Flash Fiction Contest

 

WOW! Women on Writing invites entries to its Fall 2018 Flash Fiction Contest. The honorable guest judge this season is Literary Agent Heather Flaherty with The Bent Agency. Seeking short fiction of any genre between 250 – 750 words. The mission of this contest is to inspire creativity and provide well-rewarded recognition to contestants. Electronic submissions via e-mail only; reprints are okay; multiple submissions are okay as long as they are submitted in their own individual e-mail. Open internationally. Limit: 300 entries.
