2023 International Rubery Book Award is now OPEN for self-published and independently published books

14 November 2022

The Rubery Prize is a prestigious international book award seeking the best books by indie writers, self-published authors, and books published by independent presses, judged by reputable judges. Creative writing is such a key part of life for those who enjoy writing yet it is increasingly difficult to become traditionally published. Through our reputation of finding quality and outstanding books, we aim to bring recognition to the works that win and heighten an author’s profile.
The Rubery Prize is a well-established name in the publishing world.

We are now accepting entries for 2023.

Books and Ebooks

  • As of the 2018 award, we would like you to send both versions of your book if you have the two available. This isn’t compulsory but would help us. When doing this you MUST make it clear that both versions have been sent to us on the entry form.

Books

  • You should send one copy of each book.
  • Entries should be postmarked no later than the 31st of March 2023. If you think your book will be delayed in the post please contact us. Any entries received after the closing date will automatically be put into the next competition.

Ebooks

  • We are happy to receive ebooks if no print version is available or if there is a problem receiving your print version.
  • Ebooks should be uploaded to us from the entry form in any of the following formats: Word, PDF, Mobi. If your ebook is in a different format please use Calibre to convert the file.
  • Please be aware that books with lots of images will be large files and it may be better to send a hard copy version.
  • Your cover should be included in the file and not added as a separate file.
  • We cannot accept ebooks that are sent as a gift to download from Amazon. This is because the gift goes to just one person. Because of the judging process, the ebook may need to be read by multiple people.
  • We will not accept invitations to download files from websites.

Terms and conditions

  • This is an international competition and we accept submissions from anyone in the world provided all submissions are in English.
  • Each entrant will submit one copy of their book.
  • Entrants may be asked to send a further copy of their book.
  • Each entrant will fill out the entry form and either send with their book or submit it electronically.

  • There is no publication date requirement but books should not be out of print.
  • Unpublished manuscripts are not accepted and will not be returned. No refund will be issued.
  • Entries cannot be returned.
  • The Rubery Book Award holds no responsibility for incomplete or ineligible entries.
  • The website makes clear that books sent via a courier cannot be delivered to a PO Box. We are therefore not accountable if you go ahead and use a courier. We will also not issue refunds for undeliverable books.
  •  Anybody associated with the Rubery Book Award and employees is not eligible to enter.
  • Entries containing unacceptable (in Rubery Book Award’s opinion), indecent, defamatory, or discriminatory language, pornographic, or other unlawful content shall not be considered.

  • If your entry is returned to you we will expect you to email us your entry as an ebook or Word document.
If in our judgment a refund is due, the request must be made within twenty-eight days of the entry being made.
  • All prizes will be paid in sterling either by Cheque or PayPal. The Rubery Book Award cannot be held responsible for any fees levied by PayPal or fees associated with currency conversions.
  • By entering you agree that if you win one of our awards you will send us a photo with your award for us to post on our website and/or social media and to be used for any advertising.
  • The judge’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  • No feedback is offered and no personal comments regarding entries will be given.
